Summary
Optimus is Tesla's bet on a low-cost, mass-manufacturable humanoid. The Gen 2 prototype shown in late 2023 introduced faster walking, lighter mass and higher-fidelity hands.
Optimus reuses much of Tesla's Autopilot stack: vision-only perception, end-to-end neural networks and large-scale data collection. Tesla aims to deploy Optimus at its own factories first, with consumer pricing targeted in the $20K-$30K range over time.
