Tesla

Reuses its Autopilot AI stack to build a low-cost, mass-manufacturable humanoid.

Tesla announced its Optimus humanoid program at AI Day 2021 and showed Gen 2 hardware in late 2023. The bet is that Tesla's vehicle-derived perception, neural-network policies and large-scale manufacturing can drive humanoid prices toward consumer-affordable territory over time.

Optimus reuses the same end-to-end neural networks Tesla developed for vehicle autonomy and feeds them with data collected by tele-operators in dedicated dojo environments. Tesla's stated plan is to deploy Optimus first inside its own factories before opening external sales. Long-term consumer pricing has been floated in the $20,000–$30,000 range, though no commercial product is shipping at that price as of 2026.
