Engineered Arts
UK pioneer of expressive humanoids built for human-robot interaction.
Engineered Arts, founded in 2004 by Will Jackson and based in Falmouth, Cornwall, is a leading maker of highly expressive humanoid robots for communication, research and entertainment. Its best-known robot, Ameca, is widely regarded as the most realistic face-and-upper-body humanoid for human interaction.
Engineered Arts focuses on the social and expressive side of humanoids rather than locomotion or industrial payload work. Its proprietary Mesmer technology drives dozens of individually actuated facial motors to reproduce lifelike expressions, while the Tritium operating system handles control and increasingly integrates large language models for conversation. Ameca and its predecessors (RoboThespian, Mesmer) are deployed in museums, visitor attractions, research labs and corporate demonstrations worldwide. Ameca Generation 3, shown at ICRA 2025, added improved facial actuators, better hand dexterity and tighter LLM integration.
