Physical Intelligence

A universal robot brain built on vision-language-action models.

Physical Intelligence is a San Francisco-based software-first lab building generalist foundation models for robots. Founded in 2024 by researchers including Sergey Levine and Chelsea Finn, it raised a $600M Series B led by Alphabet's CapitalG at a $5.6B valuation.

Physical Intelligence develops the π (pi) series of vision-language-action models — a hardware-agnostic 'robot brain' that can be licensed to run on different robot platforms. In 2025 the company open-sourced its π0 model, making a capable generalist policy publicly available for the first time. The approach treats robotics as a software problem: rather than building hardware, Physical Intelligence licenses its models to hardware partners across the industry. Founding researchers bring deep academic roots in robot learning, combining large-scale language-model techniques with real-world manipulation data.
