Boston Dynamics

Pioneer of dynamic mobility, building the Atlas humanoid and Spot quadruped.

Boston Dynamics started as an MIT spinoff in 1992 and is best known for breakthrough work on legged robotics. After passing through Google and SoftBank, it has been part of Hyundai Motor Group since 2020.

Boston Dynamics' commercial line in 2026 centres on Spot, the four-legged inspection robot, and Stretch, the warehouse loader. In 2024 the company unveiled an all-electric next-generation Atlas humanoid aimed at industrial deployments. That's a sharp departure from the hydraulic research Atlas that defined the platform for a decade. Pilot programmes with Hyundai's automotive plants are the leading reference customers.
